Artistic Journey

My art practice is centered around the exploration of texture, light, and movement found in the natural world. Through drawing with graphite, I strive to capture the beauty of my environment, creating soft surreal clouds and textural works of mountains, beaches, and prairies of the Midwest. Working with graphite allows me to create a sense of depth and movement in my pieces, while also conveying the light and shadow of my subject matter. My goal is to create art that transports the viewer to
another place, providing a moment of respite from the chaos of everyday life. Through my art, I hope to encourage viewers to take time to appreciate and explore the beauty of the natural world.

ARTIST BIO

Bobby Goldsmith, is a self-taught, photorealistic artist who was born in Oklahoma and now lives on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Using the medium of graphite and pencil, his subjects are usually derived from his own photographs. He exhibits his work at art shows and fairs throughout the South where they have received many accolades. While most of his subjects deal with nature, he also does an occasional portrait for a change of pace.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE

Original artworks are drawn on prepared primed panels using my own specially formulated primer. The drawings are created with graphite pencil and graphite powder. A variety of tools are used including erasers, sandpaper, razor blades, and fiberglass brushes. No other form of media is used in the creation of my drawings. No photo manipulation or digital altering. My frames are custom made by me. They are constructed of wood and are made to have the appearance of raw steel.
